Changes in Barcelona Players' Shirt Numbers Before the New Season
Friday 08-08-2025
The Spanish newspaper "Sport" has revealed notable changes in the shirt numbers of Barcelona players just days before the start of the 2025/2026 La Liga season, where German goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen appeared without a number in the official team list update on the La Liga website.

Ter Stegen's absence from the list with a shirt number comes amid ongoing tension between him and the club's management, after he refused to sign the medical report regarding his injury, which prevented its submission. It is still unclear whether the absence of the number is related to his long-term injury or administrative maneuvers by the club.

The list also saw the departure of several players who have left the team, such as Ansu Fati and Iñigo Martínez, the latter of whom is on the verge of transferring to Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia. Young defender Pau Cubarsi has taken the number 5 shirt previously worn by Martínez, while Lamine Yamal appeared with the number 10 after renewing his contract until 2031.

On the other hand, none of the new signings such as Juan Garcia, Marcus Rashford, or Wojciech Szczęsny appeared, as he needs to be re-registered after the expiration and renewal of his contract. Gerard Martin and Marc Bernal were also not included, despite promises of being given numbers with the first team.

Additionally, Swedish player Bergdahl has also not received a number yet, as he is expected to be temporarily registered with Barcelona Atletic until space becomes available in the salary cap.

Barcelona's management is racing against time to register the remaining players before the season kicks off on August 16 against Real Mallorca, especially since the team's list currently includes only 17 players on the La Liga website.
