Araujo's Future at Barcelona Threatened by Financial Pressures
Thursday 26-06-2025
The future of Uruguayan defender Ronald Araujo is in doubt at FC Barcelona, amid the financial pressures the club is experiencing and the need to create space in the salary cap to register new players.

According to statements from Deco, the club's sporting director, Barcelona has a surplus at the center-back position, making it necessary to sell one of the players during the summer transfer window. Although attention was initially directed towards Andreas Christensen, Araujo's situation is also under consideration within the club's management.

Selling Araujo is seen as the quickest solution for Barcelona to free up a significant amount of salary, especially with the impending decrease in the release clause in his contract to €60 million starting next July. The club needs this step to improve new signings such as goalkeeper Juan Garcia, in addition to continuing efforts to finalize the deal for Nico Williams.

Despite supportive statements from Hans Flick and Deco regarding Araujo recently, Barcelona's economic situation may push towards his sale, given the necessity to adhere to the 1:1 ratio imposed by La Liga for registering new contracts.
