Argentinian star Lionel Messi of Inter Miami has confirmed that the Club World Cup is an exciting tournament, indicating that he aims to achieve good results in the competition.

Messi's comments came before facing Al Ahly in the opening match, which will kick off at three o'clock in the morning on Sunday, Cairo and Mecca time.

Messi said in statements via the official website of FIFA: "It is an exciting tournament. The opportunity to participate in it is very thrilling."

He added: "My expectations are different from what I had when I played with other teams, but I am excited and look forward to competing against the best teams and achieving good results."

He continued: "There are huge teams coming from all over the world, and this stirs the emotions of many everywhere."
