International Break Fatigue Disrupts Flick's Plans
Monday 24-03-2025
Hans Flick, the coach of Barcelona, is facing a tough challenge after the international break, as many of the team's players have played long matches with their national teams, which could affect their readiness in a crucial week for the Catalan team.

According to the Spanish newspaper "Marca", what concerns Flick the most is that matches involving Spain, the Netherlands, France, and Croatia went into extra time, increasing the physical burden on his key players.

Lamine Yamal was one of the most affected, having played 186 minutes with the Spanish national team, while Frenkie de Jong played 180 minutes with the Netherlands, making him part of the fatigued players' list as well.

As for Jules Koundé, he did not leave the field in either of France's matches against Croatia, playing 210 minutes, and he was responsible for taking a penalty kick but missed it.

The crisis is further complicated in midfield with the continued absence of Casado due to injury, putting Flick in a position with limited options to face the upcoming match pressures.

In the attacking line, Robert Lewandowski is still tied to his international commitments with Poland, as he has another match against Malta after playing 86 minutes in the previous game.

The duo Ronald Araújo and Raphinha face an additional challenge, as they will play matches with the national teams of Uruguay and Brazil late in the week, which may complicate their participation in the match against Osasuna on Thursday in La Liga.

After the players return, Barcelona will enter a series of strong matches, including:

Osasuna - Thursday in La Liga.

Girona - Sunday in La Liga.

Copa del Rey return leg - Wednesday.

Flick will need to find quick solutions to manage physical fatigue, especially with the pressure of matches and potential absences, in a pivotal stage of the season that could determine the competition for titles.
