Xavi Remembers a Tough Time: Imagine if Messi Had Transferred to Real Madrid?
Spanish star Xavi Hernandez spoke about one of the toughest times he experienced with his teammates when he was a player for FC Barcelona.
Xavi recalled the transfer of Portuguese star Luis Figo from the Catalan club to their arch-rival Real Madrid in 2000.
Xavi said: "Figo's departure in 2000 was a painful blow. It was like Messi leaving for there at the peak of his career after winning the Ballon d'Or."
He added: "Figo was our captain and our best player, and he joined Real Madrid, our eternal rival. It took us three or four years to recover our strength."
