Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso spoke about his team's loss to Sunderland, stating that his players did not deliver the performance needed to equalize. He also pointed out some aspects that the team lacked during the match.

Alonso said about Cole Palmer's appeal for a penalty: "I didn't see what Cole Palmer did, but there may have been a chance for a penalty to be given."

Regarding the penalty awarded to Sunderland, he explained: "I think it was a situation he could have dealt with better, it’s our mistake."

Speaking about Chelsea's performance and the difficulties they faced against the opponent's defensive block, he said: "I was trying to find solutions, but we lacked some speed in moving the ball, and we didn't show enough patience in playing against the defensive block. We didn't create enough chances, and we lacked the patience and creativity needed to create opportunities, which is why we weren't close to scoring."

Chelsea's manager spoke about the physical strength displayed by Sunderland, saying: "We were prepared for that, and we knew that winning here would require a lot; we weren't far from achieving it, but it came down to the details and the things we could have done better."

He continued: "We could have delivered a better performance, and we didn't do enough to score the equalizer."

Alonso concluded his statements by discussing his team's development in the upcoming period, saying: "This is the Premier League, and to be more consistent during this phase, we are still in the process of evolving and improving. The feeling today is not the best, but we have time to reflect on what happened, then return in November and December and continue to progress."
