FC Barcelona targets Piero Hincapié to strengthen defence in January
FC Barcelona have included Ecuadorian player Piero Hincapié, Arsenal's defender, among their options to bolster their defense during the upcoming winter transfer window, as part of sporting director Deco's efforts to meet the needs of coach Hans Flick.
Spanish newspaper "Sport" reported that the 24-year-old player is not getting regular playing time with Arsenal this season, due to injuries and competition within the backline, which makes him far from the main options for coach Mikel Arteta.
Piero Hincapié fits FC Barcelona's requirements due to his ability to play as a centre-back and left-back, along with relying on his left foot and possessing international experience.
The report indicates that Deco has made initial contacts with the player's surroundings to gauge his stance on a move to FC Barcelona in January.
However, the deal will not be easy, as Mikel Arteta does not want to part with players during the winter transfer window, despite not relying on Piero Hincapié as a regular.
FC Barcelona's interest in Ecuadorian defender Piero Hincapié comes alongside the club's moves regarding Alessandro Bastoni, the Inter defender who remains among Deco's targets.
