The tone of the French press has changed towards Belgian player Mika Godts after he delivered his best performances since joining Paris Saint-Germain, scoring one goal and providing another in the 2-0 victory over Lyon in the postponed match between the two teams.

Godts, aged 21, joined Paris Saint-Germain during last summer's transfer window from Ajax for €45 million, after scoring 17 goals and providing 15 assists in 44 matches across all competitions with the Dutch club.

The Belgian player's start with Paris Saint-Germain was below expectations, as he managed just one assist in his first 7 matches, totaling 203 minutes, which raised criticisms from the French press and doubts about the value of the transfer. However, he responded strongly against Lyon, scoring his first goal for Paris Saint-Germain and providing another assist after coming on as a substitute.

L'Équipe praised the impact of the substitutes, stating: "Thanks to substitutes Maiolo and Goudts, Paris Saint-Germain have climbed to the top of the table." Meanwhile, Foot Mercato confirmed that the Belgian player made an immediate impact due to his energy and effectiveness. Le Parisien considered that this match could represent a turning point in his career, saying: "Perhaps this was the night Mika Goudts became a permanent player for Paris Saint-Germain."

The newspaper added: "Desiree Doué made a lasting mark in a Paris Saint-Germain shirt in December 2024, during the match against Salzburg in the UEFA Champions League, with a goal and an assist, and now history is repeating itself," referring to the possibility that the match against Lyon could be the true start of Godts' journey with the team.

Luis Enrique has expressed calm regarding the player's situation, emphasizing his confidence in the player's ability to adapt to the team's requirements. He said: "This is a normal and usual matter, as every player needs time to adjust. We are happy with him, and we must remain calm in order to benefit from him in the best possible way."

Goudet's brilliance comes at a crucial time with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia sidelined due to a long-term injury and Ousmane Dembélé out for several weeks, giving him a greater opportunity to prove himself and secure a key role in Luis Enrique's plans.
