Liverpool considering new terms for van Dijk contract extension
Liverpool are considering extending the contract of their Dutch captain Virgil van Dijk, which expires at the end of the current season, as the management wishes to retain his services for an additional period.
TEAMtalk has reported that Liverpool are open to offering a new 12-month contract, with the possibility of adding further options, in recognition of the role of their 35-year-old defender, who has played every minute of the team's matches in the Premier League this season.
The club is not rushing to finalize the agreement, but they want to inform Virgil van Dijk that he is part of their future plans, despite the possibility that he may need to reduce his salary, as he is one of the highest-paid defenders in Europe.
The source indicated that both parties are open to discussing an extension, with expectations to evaluate the player's future more seriously in 2027, especially since his experience helps in developing young defenders Jérémy Jacquet and Giovanni Leoni.
Meanwhile, Liverpool are studying the future of Joe Gomez while focusing on strengthening the left-back position and finalizing the deal for Ronald Araújo after negotiations with FC Barcelona began.
Virgil van Dijk's future is not an immediate concern at Anfield, but Liverpool are continuing to monitor potential alternatives, especially as Alysson's contract also expires next summer, opening the door to the possibility of two key players leaving the team in recent years.
