Virgil van Dijk, the Dutch captain of Liverpool, has expressed his anger at the referee's decision not to award a penalty to his team during the match against Arsenal, which ended in a defeat for the Reds by a goal to nil, in the Premier League.

Liverpool protested after their forward Alexander Isak was clearly pulled by Arsenal defender Jurrien Timber's shirt inside the penalty area, in a moment where the home players demanded a penalty. However, the referee decided to let play continue without intervention from the Video Assistant Referee.

Virgil van Dijk stated in remarks to Sky Sports: "There was a clear penalty for us. I watched the incident again, and I saw similar situations where penalties were given on other occasions, but it didn't happen today."

Liverpool captain added: "Didn’t the video referee notice that? There are 50 cameras, even more than that. Why does Isak need to protest with all these cameras around? Everyone saw what happened."

Virgil van Dijk concluded his remarks by emphasising his disappointment with the result, after Liverpool failed to equalise, saying: "In the end, the penalty was not given and we lost the match, and unfortunately, we congratulate Arsenal on the win."
