Spanish manager Mikel Arteta expressed his great pride in Arsenal's victory over Liverpool by a goal to nil at Anfield, stating that the win was important not only because of the result but also due to the spirit shown by the players and the way they managed to achieve it.

Arteta said in statements to "Sky Sports": "I am extremely proud. It has been 14 years since we last won here, and that is a long time. I am sure we have made everyone associated with the club feel a great sense of pride today, not just because of the win, but because of the way we achieved it and the spirit we showed."

He added: "This matter takes on greater importance if we remember what happened four days ago, when we lost and were eliminated from the cup against a team we were supposed to beat. This is the magical side of football; the game can lead you to very difficult moments, but just four days later you get the chance to achieve a historic feat, and we succeeded in that."

Regarding the difficulty of dealing with Liverpool's attacks, Arsenal manager said: "The game could have changed to a different direction in a very short time. The way Liverpool attacks allows them to launch vertical and dangerous attacks from a poorly cleared ball or even an inaccurate throw-in. This is one of their strengths."

"We had to be ready to deal with these situations immediately, and to defend an area of up to 60 metres, with four or five players rushing towards the penalty area. We talked about it beforehand, and we put all our focus into dealing with these balls, and sometimes we succeeded with greater quality and sometimes to a lesser degree, and we also caused some chaos in our favour."

He added: "I also think that the players should be praised for the chances and situations we created today, even though we couldn't take advantage of them. In the end, winning against a team that performs at this level, and given the psychological state we were in after the Fleetwood match, is what a team that wants to win should do."

Regarding the difficult fan atmosphere at Anfield, Arteta said: "You have to go through such circumstances if you want to win. We have played similar matches in the past, but we have not been able to maintain our lead until the end. Sometimes we make a mistake inside the penalty area or misread one of the balls, and at other times the opponent provides an exceptional moment and manages to score a goal, so we are unable to achieve victory. Today we faced all these circumstances, and we also had a bit of luck, along with having the necessary quality at the right moments to hurt the opponent."

Regarding the non-award of a penalty for Liverpool after Alexander Isak was pulled by the shirt, Mikel Arteta simply said: "No, I didn't see that moment."

He concluded about the importance of the victory in the title race, "It is too early to talk about that now. Let us enjoy this exceptional win with the players and coaching staff, and tomorrow we will start preparing for another big night in Prague."

Mikel Arteta concluded his remarks on the significance of this victory for him personally, stating: "I feel an immense pride, as this is an achievement you strive for. This is the challenge and the task you want to accomplish. I love achieving victories that have eluded the club for many years, and it was similar to what happened when we won away against Chelsea and Manchester United; the ability to win in all these stadiums represents our goal and motivation, and it is the reason behind what we do."
