Gavi faces increasing marginalization at Barcelona after being ignored against Alavés
Gavi's struggles at Barcelona continue as he remained on the bench throughout the match against Deportivo Alavés, which ended in a 6-1 victory for the Catalan side in the 11th round of LaLiga.
Despite Barcelona securing the match practically in the first half after taking a four-goal lead, German coach Hansi Flick did not give Gavi any minutes to participate, even after making the five available substitutions. What is even more striking is that Flick kept Rodri and Fermín López on the pitch for the entire ninety minutes, despite the team having a comfortable lead.
Flick made his first substitution at the start of the second half, bringing on Marc Bernal for Pedri, before introducing Alejandro Balde for João Cancelo, and Gabriel Jesus for Raphinha in the 62nd minute. He then substituted Gordon for Lamine Yamal in the 74th minute, and Gerard Martin for Frenkie de Jong in the 82nd minute, with Gavi not being involved in any of these changes.
Flick's decision gains importance as Barcelona face three matches in one week against Deportivo Alavés, Aston Villa in the UEFA Champions League, and Atlético, with several key players getting rest periods, while Rodri and Fermín López completed the match until the end. This raises questions about Gavi's position in the coach's plans, especially with the winter transfer market approaching and interest from Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool in signing him, according to the report. The Spanish midfielder is contracted to FC Barcelona until 2030.
