Newroz embarrasses Al-Shorta with valuable draw in the Stars League
In a major fan-facing encounter filled with excitement and competitiveness held at Al-Qafas Stadium in the capital Baghdad for the 12th round of the Iraq Stars League, Newroz succeeded in imposing a thrilling and positive draw with a score of 1-1 against their hosts Al-Shorta in a match that witnessed a significant tactical battle between the two teams. The home side, Al-Shorta, entered the match with a clear field advantage and early control, dominating the flow of the game and applying pressure from the early minutes to impose their rhythm. Despite Al-Shorta's absolute superiority, the visitors surprised everyone with an organized counter-attack that resulted in the first goal for Newroz through player Mahmoud Al-Baath in the 11th minute, giving his team an unexpected lead and igniting the match early on. Al-Shorta was not affected by the shock goal and continued their absolute control and intense attacking pressure on the visitors' areas until star Mohanad Ali managed to equalize with a precious goal for Al-Shorta in the 32nd minute, bringing the balance back to its natural state and ending the first half with a positive draw amid good physical and technical performance from both sides. With the start of the second half, the match turned into a pure tactical struggle in the midfield area, where Al-Shorta's coaching staff tried to activate the attacking side and search for gaps in the solid defensive wall imposed by Newroz's coach. Al-Shorta's players showed greater urgency in search of the winning goal, but haste in the final touch and lack of focus prevented them from converting opportunities into goals. On the other hand, Newroz excelled in reading the flow of the second half with high intelligence, relying on organized defensive clustering and reducing spaces in the final defensive third while closing all flanks against Al-Shorta's wing attempts and smartly relying on quick counter-attacks to threaten the hosts' goal and keep the danger alive. This tremendous tactical discipline from the visitors succeeded in absorbing Al-Shorta's attacking enthusiasm and thwarted all their attempts until the referee blew the final whistle, announcing a points share. This unsatisfactory draw for Al-Shorta's ambitions resulted in a change in the standings, as Al-Shorta raised their tally to 21 points, settling in fourth place, while Newroz continued their impressive performances, raising their tally to 20 points and occupying fifth place in the overall standings.
