Hours before the anticipated clash in Baghdad at Al Zawraa Stadium, history opens its golden pages for Al-Shorta ahead of their match against Al-Hussein (Irbid) tomorrow, Tuesday, October 27, 2026, in the third round of the AFC Champions League.

The Green has a rich football legacy and a clear historical advantage in its encounters against clubs from the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan in various continental and regional competitions.

Historical records of Arab and Asian football indicate that the first encounters between Al-Shorta and Jordanian clubs were associated with achievements and trophies. Al-Shorta kicked off its official matches against Al-Ahli (Amman) in the first Arab Clubs Championship 1981-1982, a tournament that witnessed Al-Shorta's clear superiority and its crowning as the first Arab title in its history.

The leading Asian official station revealed a clear Iraqi prowess as Al-Police faced Al-Jazeera in the group stage of the AFC Cup for the 2014-2015 season. The first leg in the capital, Oman, ended in a positive draw of 1-1, before Al-Police players stormed Al-Jazeera's net with a deserving four-goal haul of 4-0 in the second leg held in the Qatari capital, Doha. Marwan Hussein scored two goals, while Amjad Walid and Brazilian Souza also found the net, allowing both teams to qualify for the knockout stages at that time.

Historical records indicate that the unofficial history also smiles upon Al-Shorta, as during their training camp in Oman in 2003, they managed to overcome Al-Wehdat with a wide scoreline of 4-2. In another friendly match held in 2020, a positive draw of 1-1 was seen in the encounter between Al-Shorta and Al-Faisaly, which was halted before the completion of its original time due to bad weather conditions.

The impressive records place Al-Shorta in a position of strength and historical confidence ahead of their clash with Al-Hussein (Irbid). Will coach Hussein Abdul Wahid's sons succeed in writing a new chapter of Iraqi superiority and enhancing their lead in Group D with a perfect score?
