Eiraola: Szoboszlai and Munoz have a chance to participate, but that doesn't mean much
Andoni Iraola, Liverpool's head coach, appeared at a press conference to discuss the upcoming match against Arsenal, scheduled for Sunday, as part of the 9th round of the Premier League at Anfield. He touched on the readiness of several of his players and the team's ambitions in the title race.
The coach spoke about the situation regarding Dominik Szoboszlai and Víctor Muñoz's participation against Arsenal, saying: "I think they have a chance to participate, but I don't know that for sure. We still have two days left, but I believe they have a chance, yes."
In response to Jamie Carragher's recent comments describing Liverpool as Arsenal's main title rival, the manager stated: "It's still early, we're in October. We take each day as it comes. I always say the first real test comes when you face all the teams once, which is in the middle of the season, and then you can start thinking about the table and those things. But right now we are in a position where we need to develop and keep improving."
He added: "For the fans, it's good to have ambitions and believe that we can win, but if you ask me, I still think it's too early in the season."
Speaking about his success in winning three of the last four encounters against Arsenal while he was manager of AFC Bournemouth, Iraola said: "It is true that I achieved good results against them with AFC Bournemouth, but that does not mean much. We are facing a completely different team, a different group of players, and at a different stage. We cannot use the same methods we relied on with AFC Bournemouth against Arsenal; instead, we must use different tools, make the best use of our players, and trust them."
He concluded his remarks about the keys to the Arsenal match: "In the end, it will come down to winning the duels, running more than them, and excelling in the mini-battles during set pieces, and these are the things we need to control when we face Arsenal."
