Pedri under pressure from matches as Flick moves to avoid fatigue
Barcelona's manager Hans Flick is looking to manage Pedri's playing minutes to avoid fatigue, after his statistics revealed the amount of effort he has exerted with the club and the Spanish national team during 2026, according to the Spanish newspaper "Mundo Deportivo".
Pedri has participated in 50 out of a possible 60 official matches this year, starting 40 of them. He missed ten matches, seven of which were due to injury, and he played 3,399 minutes out of a possible 5,400 minutes, which is about 62%.
So far in the 2026/2027 season, the midfielder has played 906 minutes out of a possible 1170 minutes, which is a percentage of 77.43%. He has participated in all 13 matches, but he has left the pitch before the end on nine occasions, making him the most substituted player at FC Barcelona.
These figures came after Barcelona's loss to Real Madrid by a score of 2-1 in El Clásico, as Flick said after the match: "This is not an excuse, but we were not in good physical condition today, and that is what we need to change."
In terms of participation minutes this season, Lamine Yamal tops the list with 1101 minutes, followed by goalkeeper Juan García with 1035 minutes, then Pedri with 907 minutes, Pau Cubarsí with 872 minutes, and Gerard Martín with 843 minutes.
In contrast, Farinas has not participated yet, while Hamza Abdelkarim has played only 12 minutes, Gavi has a total of 191 minutes, and De Jong has played 16 minutes since his return, while Gabriel Jesus has participated for 233 minutes.
