Gattuso enforces discipline at SS Lazio: no excuses for lateness or slackness in training

Gennaro Gattuso, the head coach of SS Lazio, has sent a stern message to his players, confirming that punctuality and seriousness in training are red lines that cannot be compromised. He stressed that the team's success begins with discipline and teamwork.

Gennaro Gattuso stated in remarks reported by "La Gazzetta dello Sport": "There are two things for which I will not accept any excuses, which are punctuality and seriousness in training. If a player has an extra drink the night before, which has happened to me as well during my playing career, all he has to do is tell me, and he will train at a different time of the day."

The Italian coach added: "It only takes one or two players lacking focus to ruin an entire training session. As for punctuality, I will not allow any exceptions, otherwise it will turn into a circus. We can negotiate many things, but these principles are non-negotiable."

In a humorous incident, Gattuso revealed a situation he faced weeks ago when his front door malfunctioned on his way to SS Lazio's training centre in Formello. He explained that he had to jump over the gate and run to avoid being late, sending a practical message to his players that unexpected circumstances should not turn into permanent excuses.

Lazio's coach concluded his remarks by affirming his openness to listening to his players and understanding their needs, but he stressed the necessity of adhering to his instructions when it comes to work on the pitch, considering that respect, discipline, and focus are fundamental to maintaining the strength of the group and ensuring its continued success.
