Gattuso: I don't want to see fear.. we need courage
Gennaro Gattuso, the head coach of SS Lazio, has stressed the importance of showing courage and mental resilience before facing Juventus tomorrow in Serie A, highlighting the need to approach the match without fear, despite acknowledging that the opponent has the upper hand theoretically.
Gattuso said during the press conference: "We are playing against a very big team, which has gathered a little of what it has sown so far. What matters to me is courage and playing with a strong mentality without fear. Juventus are stronger than us on paper, but I want to see a team that fights for every ball. If we go there feeling hesitant or scared, it won't help us at all."
SS Lazio's coach added: "We are providing good things, but we need to improve in many aspects, especially in dealing with difficult moments during matches. We must avoid unnecessary short passes and occupy spaces better, as we run a lot when we have to chase opponents. It's not just about the physical side, but about a good understanding of the pitch and correct movement."
Gattuso spoke about the danger posed by Juventus, saying: "They can play in different ways, and they are very dangerous in crosses and set pieces, as they excel at filling the penalty area. We need courage, maximum focus, and intensity, because if we enter the match with a mentality of surrender, we won't get anywhere."
Lazio's coach concluded his statements by emphasizing his desire to see his team play with a clear attacking identity, stating: "When we attack, we must attack boldly, while understanding that there are moments that require thinking differently. We know that Juventus are capable of putting us in difficult situations, but we need the right mentality and the desire to compete."
