Alonso reveals details of João Pedro's injury and confirms he will undergo tests
Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has confirmed that Brazilian forward João Pedro suffered a physical issue during training, leading to his exclusion from today's match against Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League.
Alonso has explained in statements that the player felt discomfort during the training session held on Friday, before signs of fluid accumulation appeared in the injured area, which necessitates medical examinations to determine the nature of the injury and its severity.
Chelsea's manager spoke about his striker's condition: "He felt some discomfort during training yesterday, and he is currently suffering from a fluid buildup, so we need to carry out tests to determine the severity of the injury. It is certainly frustrating for this to happen, but we have to keep working and move forward."
Alonso has not yet specified the nature of the injury or the expected duration of the player's absence, as the next steps will depend on the results of medical examinations. Therefore, it cannot be determined whether the injury is serious or when he will return before additional information is released.
João Pedro will miss the match against Tottenham, with Alonso selecting Portuguese winger Geovany Quenda to replace him in the starting lineup, pointing to his ability to exploit spaces and move effectively in the attacking third.
