Bayern Munich reveals latest updates on Kompany's health status
Max Eberl, the sporting director of Bayern Munich, has revealed the latest updates on the health condition of Belgian coach Vincent Kompany after he collapsed suddenly during a training session with the club's reserve team on Friday, which necessitated his transfer for medical care at the hospital.
Eberl stated during the press conference before the match between Bayern Munich and their hosts SC Freiburg in the Bundesliga: "The good news is that his condition is stable. I spoke with him last night, as well as with his wife. It was not an easy moment for any of us, as he collapsed on the pitch yesterday, and he will remain in the hospital for a few more days until all tests are completed."
He added: "This reminds us once again that health is the most important thing in life, not football. Therefore, we all wish him a speedy recovery, and we at Bayern Munich stand together. The most important thing is to know the cause of what happened, for him to regain his health and be able to recover in peace, and to return only when he is completely ready."
The sporting director of Bayern Munich stated: "The tests have indeed shown some results, but further examinations are needed to determine the nature of what happened and the duration of the recovery. He is in safe hands, and the best we can do is support him emotionally and psychologically, surrounding him with love."
Eberl discussed the impact of the incident on the reserve team players, who witnessed what happened during training, saying: "For the players aged 17 and 18, it was very impactful, as many of them have never faced a negative situation like this before. Some things happen suddenly in life, and it was natural for the players to feel confused."
He also thanked DJK Vilzing and the Bavarian Football Association for their understanding of the situation and their quick agreement to postpone the match, emphasizing that there are matters more important than football, foremost among them being human health and standing by each other in difficult times.
Regarding the timing of Kompany's return to lead the team, Eberl emphasized that the club will not set any specific timeline for his recovery, stating: "Vinny will get all the time he needs. We won't start putting down specific dates; first, we need to understand what happened, and then we can calmly consider the necessary recovery period. We won't talk about days, but about weeks, and that's clear to all of us."
Eberl concluded his remarks by affirming his confidence in the Bayern Munich coaching staff, despite Kompany's absence, stating: "We have a fantastic coaching staff, and Fini is the head of this staff, but the success of the past years is also due to an exceptional team working behind the scenes. There are no thoughts of making changes, as everyone here is at a high level, and we can approach the coming weeks with the spirit of Fini that each of us carries."
