Chelsea lead the race for Alexander Arnold as Real Madrid clarify their position
Chelsea have shown increased interest in signing Alexander Arnold, the Real Madrid full-back, as manager Xabi Alonso wishes to work with the English player again. Meanwhile, the Spanish club has become open to selling him should a suitable offer arrive.
According to "TEAMtalk", Chelsea have moved to the top of the clubs interested in signing Alexander Arnold, ahead of Liverpool, who are looking to re-sign their former player, along with Arsenal and Manchester City showing interest in the deal.
Alexander Arnold is facing difficulties in getting regular playing opportunities at Real Madrid, as manager José Mourinho sometimes relies on Fede Valverde in the right-back position instead of him, prompting the player to consider his future and the possibility of returning to the Premier League.
The report clarified that Real Madrid are not seeking to force the player out, but they are prepared to consider suitable offers, at a time when Alonso hopes to rekindle his collaboration with the English full-back whom he previously coached at the Spanish club.
Chelsea are moving in light of the expected absence of their captain Reece James for around three months, following knee surgery. Malo Gusto is also linked with interest from Liverpool, which may prompt the London club to reassess their options at right-back.
The same source indicated that Liverpool attempted to sign Malo Gusto on loan during the summer, but Chelsea insisted on selling him permanently and requested £75 million, which the Reds did not agree to. The report added that Chelsea may allow Gusto to leave in January, reducing their previous financial demands.
