Mourinho: We will be ready for the clásico, and Diomande cannot be stopped in this case
José Mourinho, the manager of Real Madrid, expressed his satisfaction with his team's big win over Leipzig 4-1 in the Champions League, confirming that the team delivered a good performance. He also praised Bernardo Silva's level and spoke about the preparations of the royal team for the upcoming El Clásico against FC Barcelona next Sunday.
Jose Mourinho spoke to Movistar about Bernardo Silva's performance: "Bernardo hasn't started a match in a long time, but he deserves the chance based on merit. He had a fantastic game. The team played well in the first half, but at a low tempo. The only thing I didn't like was the goal that Courtois conceded; he didn't deserve that. After the two saves he made, he doesn't deserve his teammates to ruin his night."
Regarding the use of Arda Güler and Federico Valverde in the team, he clarified: "I have been here for 105 days, which is a short period. I also need to get to know the players, and the best way to do that is through the pitch and competition. They played well, the right side worked excellently again, and we have good solutions."
Real Madrid's coach spoke about their third win in the Champions League, saying: "We have 9 points, and we are close to qualifying for the playoffs, but we are still far from reaching 20 points for direct qualification. Things will be tough in Athens, as we will play against Valencia in two days. But before that, we have a league match on Sunday."
Regarding the substitution of Vinicius Junior and the introduction of Diomande: "The aim of bringing on Diomande was not to think about the Clasico, but to take advantage of the bench and to know that we have a bench that possesses great speed. It is difficult to stop Diomande when he is at full fitness."
He added about Vinicius: "He had a good tactical game for his coach, performing his defensive duties and closing spaces well. After that, he could have scored a wonderful goal, but the goalkeeper made an excellent save. Only he can clarify whether he feels sad, but his coach is happy with his performance."
Regarding Thibaut Courtois not keeping a clean sheet despite his brilliance, "His teammates spoiled the night for Thibaut Courtois. He saved us numerous times tonight, and in the end, they ruined the clean sheet for him. He didn't deserve to concede that goal."
Mourinho concluded his remarks about the upcoming match against FC Barcelona by saying: "In the Clasico, there is no confidence from 0 to 10. It’s another match in the league, but it’s not like the other matches. We will go to play it. Right now, we are losing 24 hours of rest, but we will be ready."
