Koundé faces a threat of missing the clásico
Doubts are increasing over Jules Koundé's availability for the clash between FC Barcelona and Real Madrid next Sunday due to a severe left ankle sprain, amid pessimism within the coaching staff regarding his readiness, according to the Spanish newspaper "Mundo Deportivo."
The French defender suffered an injury during the match against Real Betis last Saturday, before medical examinations confirmed that he was suffering from a painful sprain, which caused him to miss the match against Paris Saint-Germain. This has further impacted FC Barcelona's defense in light of Erik García's absence as well.
The coaching staff led by Hans Flick believes that Jules Koundé's participation in the Clasico seems difficult, and hopes to prepare him to at least sit on the bench.
Despite the possibility of using pain-relieving injections to alleviate the pain, they may increase the risk of ligament injuries, especially since the player does not prefer this option.
Xavi Espart's serious performance against Paris Saint-Germain may mitigate the potential impact of Koundé's absence, while the chances of relying on Frenkie de Jong in central defense have diminished after he did not participate against the French team.
