FIFA rejects Spain's appeal regarding racist chants against Egypt
FIFA's appeal committee has rejected the Spanish Football Federation's appeal against the sanctions imposed on the national team due to racist chants during their friendly match against Egypt last March.
The match, which took place on March 31 at the Cornella stadium, home of RCD Espanyol Barcelona, witnessed some fans chanting offensive slogans, including: "Anyone who doesn't jump is a Muslim."
Following these events, FIFA's disciplinary committee has imposed a fine of $20,000, equivalent to approximately €17,800, in addition to requiring the Spanish national team to close at least 15% of the stadium's capacity during their upcoming home friendly.
For its part, the Spanish Football Federation has reiterated that the inappropriate behavior was detected through its monitoring systems, emphasizing its full cooperation with the relevant authorities to help identify those involved in chanting those slogans.
The Spanish Football Federation has announced its intention to appeal the decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, in a new step to continue the legal proceedings related to the case.
