Motsepe raises CAF unions' annual support to $700,000
Patrice Motsepe, the president of the Confederation of African Football, has announced a 33% increase in annual financial support for the 54 national federations, raising the grant to $700,000 for each federation. This move aims to enhance financial capabilities and develop the football system across the African continent.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) clarified in an official statement that the decision is part of Patrice Motsepe's strategy and the executive committee's efforts to provide additional resources to national federations. This initiative aims to help them develop infrastructure, improve conditions for playing football, and elevate the level of management and technical administration.
The increase is not limited to national federations, as it has been decided to raise the annual support allocated to regional federations from $750,000 to $900,000, representing a 20% increase. Meanwhile, the grant provided to the African Clubs Association has increased from $400,000 to $500,000.
Annual grants for member associations have seen a gradual increase in recent years, rising from $200,000 in 2021 to $400,000, then to $525,000, and reaching $700,000 under the new system. This represents a 250% increase compared to their level five years ago.
The African Union has confirmed that these additional resources will be directed towards supporting game development programs within national federations, focusing on youth categories and women's football, alongside improving governance and administrative management, and assisting football institutions in implementing sustainable projects.
The CAF aims through this step to expand the scope of investment in African football, providing better conditions for players, coaches, referees, and various workers in the field, in addition to granting national federations greater space to develop their programs in line with their needs and capabilities.
This increase is part of the financial measures adopted by Patrice Motsepe's administration since he took over the presidency of the African Football Confederation, aimed at enhancing the financial resources of member associations and supporting their ability to manage their affairs and develop their competitions, contributing to sustainable growth for African football at both local and continental levels.
