Lisandro Martínez, Manchester United's defender, has made clear criticisms of the club's current situation following the 2-0 loss to Atlético Madrid in the second round of the Champions League, stating that the team needed greater support in the transfer market to compete effectively.

Martínez commented on the team's performance in statements to Amazon Prime: "The performance was very poor, very poor. I have to adjust myself a lot, but sometimes what happens is a reflection of what our club is going through at the moment."

He added: "We had a fantastic season last year, and now we expect more from the upper management, and more competitive players, especially since many teams have also signed new players. Atlético Madrid has a wonderful team, and they deserve to win today."

The Argentine defender continued: "I expect more investment, definitely 100%. I expect more from our technical director, Jason Wilcox. I have to be honest, as players we need to deliver more, but it is also important to build a strong squad that is ready for nights like these."

When asked about the positions that needed strengthening, Martínez replied: "Overall. Last season we did everything, and we laid the foundation to build a great team. It is frustrating and disappointing to come here and not see my team trying to achieve a great result in this stadium."

Martínez refused to place the blame solely on the coach, stating: "I don't think so. He is doing his best. Every season is different from the other, and you cannot just rely on what you did last season. Teams know your style of play, they know all the details, and if you don't change anything in the following season, there will be a big problem."

Manchester United defender has stressed the importance of not continuing to change managers without addressing the other problems within the club, stating: "You can't keep changing the manager, then change him again, then change him again. What about the other aspects? I can't say more."

He concluded his statements by saying: "It's easy tonight to blame the coach, and it's also easy to blame the players, but we need to look at other aspects as well."
