Carrick: I haven't seen Lisandro Martínez's comments, and we feel disappointed
Michael Carrick, the manager of Manchester United, expressed his disappointment following his team's 2-0 loss to Atlético in the second round of the UEFA Champions League, objecting to the red card shown to defender Leni Euro, and asserting that his team was capable of achieving a better result.
Michael Carrick stated in remarks to Amazon Prime: "My feelings are mixed. It's hard enough to play in this stadium, and the start we had put us in a difficult position, but I think we have gradually improved over time."
The coach added in his remarks: "We started to have a degree of control during the second half, although we did not pose a real threat. Then came Bruno's chance, followed by the red card which I thought was a bad decision."
Manchester United's coach said: "I feel disappointed that we didn't capitalize on the chances that were available to us sufficiently. We tried to implement some different things, but defensively we perhaps overdid the changes in direction of play. We feel that the match was within our reach, and that is the most important thing. We could have, and should have, achieved a better result."
Regarding the team's need to improve its results, he said: "We definitely need to find a way to get out of this situation. We shouldn't judge everything based on one match like this, as we are talking about the UEFA Champions League and facing a tough away ground; there are certain things we are doing well."
Michael Carrick addressed Lisandro Martínez's comments criticizing the club's management for not supporting the team: "I haven't seen it. After a game like this, you come here frustrated because you tried to get a positive result and didn't succeed, and the emotions can be quite strong. I haven't seen what he said, so I don't think this is the right time to comment."
Manchester United's manager concluded his remarks by saying: "We all care about the team, but everyone expresses that in their own way. Now is the time for us to be united and work together to get through this phase."
