Tottenham make final decision on Richarlison
Tottenham Hotspur have clarified their stance on the future of Brazilian forward Richarlison, after informing the player's representatives that they will facilitate his departure during the upcoming winter transfer window, according to Brazilian journalist Bruno Andrade.
Richarlison's contract with Tottenham ends in June 2027, but the club does not intend to wait until the end of the season to allow him to leave for free. Andrade clarified that "the doors will be open for Richarlison starting from January", whether for a move to another club in England or to a market outside of English football.
Tottenham had the option to activate a unilateral clause allowing them to extend Richarlison's contract until 2028, but the club has informed the player's representatives that they will not do so, despite the fact that activating the option would have given them a stronger position in negotiations regarding the forward's future.
Tottenham have backed away from the idea of trying to terminate Richarlison's contract, at a time when the player's camp had explored the possibility of mutually terminating the contract or relying on legal grounds that would allow for unilateral termination. According to Andrade, none of these avenues are currently on the table.
Thus, things are heading towards Richarlison's departure from Tottenham in January, as the club seeks to reach an agreement regarding his transfer and obtain a financial return instead of losing him for free in the summer of 2027. The player, in turn, can sign a preliminary contract with a new club starting in January, which could give him additional leverage over Tottenham to reduce their financial demands.
