Qatar qualify for Gulf Cup semi-finals after hard-fought win over Yemen

The Qatar national team secured a narrow victory against Yemen with a goal to nil on Sunday evening in the second round of Group B matches at the Gulf Cup 27 held in Jeddah.

The first half ended goalless, with Yemeni goalkeeper Mohammed Aman excelling in saving dangerous attempts, notably from star Akram Afif. Meanwhile, Mahmoud Abunada kept Qatar's goal safe against Abdulwasie Al-Matari.

Al Annabi suffered an early blow with the injury of Issa Laye in the 9th minute, before the team returned to press after the break in search of a goal to secure three points.

Mohammed Aman managed to break through the Yemeni defense and score Qatar's only goal in the 63rd minute, before Akram Afif squandered a chance to double the lead from a penalty in the 72nd minute.

Qatar's national team has increased its tally to 6 points after their second victory, while Yemen remains without points following their loss to the UAE, making their situation in the race for qualification to the semi-finals of the Gulf Cup 27 more difficult.
