Surprising development hinders Adem Alilet's move to Esperance Tunis

Negotiations between Esperance Tunis and Algerian defender Adem Alilet have seen new developments, as USM Alger have insisted on keeping their player and rejected his move to the Libyan Premier League during the current summer transfer window.

Adem Alilet is 27 years old and plays as a centre-back. He has previously delivered impressive performances with USM Alger, contributing to the team's progression to advanced stages of the Confederation Cup and the Algerian Cup, before the club finished both competitions on the podium.

The Algerian defender joined USM Alger in February 2026 on a contract that runs until June 2028, for a fee exceeding $450,000, before participating with the team during the second phase of the Libyan Premier League.

In August, Esperance Tunis entered official negotiations with Adem Alilet, aiming to bolster their defense after the departures of Tunisian Yassine Meriah and Algerian Mohamed Amine Tougai, especially given that the new arrivals Raed Chikhaoui and Marwan Sahraoui have not provided the expected contribution at the start of the season.

Esperance Tunis has reached an agreement with Adem Alilet regarding his transfer to the club before the summer transfer window closes in Tunisia on September 20. Alilet has also agreed to several conditions, and he was expected to arrive in Tunisia to complete negotiations and sign a contract that will run until 2029.

Recent developments have brought a surprise as the player returned to training with the Libyan Premier League after widespread belief that he would head to Tunisia today to complete his transfer to Esperance Tunis.

According to reports, the Libyan Football Federation is still refusing to terminate Adem Alilet's contract and allow him to join the Tunisian team, in a situation reminiscent of what happened previously with the Brazilian Lucas Ribeiro's transfer, before the intervention of Esperance Tunis football team official Chokri Wahar and his trip to Tripoli to finalize the deal.
