Al-Shamal hold Al-Shorta to a goalless draw in the league

Al-Shamal held Al-Shorta to a goalless draw in their match on Saturday evening at the Al-Qafas Stadium in Baghdad, as part of the seventh round of the Iraq Stars League.

A disappointing result for the hosts who failed to convert their advantage into goals, while a historic point for the newcomer against one of the top title contenders.

Al-Shorta entered the match with a clear determination to secure all three points and advance in the standings. From the early minutes, Al-Shorta imposed complete control and absolute possession of the ball, with continuous attempts to break down the defensive block of the visitors.

In contrast, Al-Shamal relied on a solid defensive organization and quick counter-attacks to exploit the spaces behind the advanced full-backs of Al-Shorta.

Al-Shamal nearly surprised everyone in the 6th minute when Hussein Taleb scored the opening goal, but the referee disallowed it after reviewing VAR for offside.

Police efforts continued, and Colombian Cristian Barco came close to opening the scoring in the 34th minute with a powerful shot that hit the crossbar, denying the team a certain goal.

The first half ended in a goalless draw despite the clear advantage for the home side.

At the start of the second half, coach Ahmed Salah tried to invigorate the attacking flanks through substitutions, increasing Al-Shamal's pressure on the Gaz Al-Shamal goal.

With this result, Al-Shorta have raised their tally to 12 points, temporarily occupying fourth place, but they missed a golden opportunity to close the gap with the leading teams after their rivals faltered.

Al-Shamal have increased their tally to 7 points and moved up to 13th place. The draw against Al-Shorta in Baghdad is very valuable for the promoted team, confirming that they are capable of competing with the big teams despite having fewer resources compared to other clubs.
