Fenerbahçe's president has rejected the resignation of head coach Ismail Kartal after the Turkish manager announced his departure following a 1-1 draw against AS Roma in the first round of the UEFA Champions League group stage.

Kartal announced his resignation unexpectedly after the match, confirming that he made the decision to pave the way for the club. However, Fenerbahçe's president intervened and insisted on his continuation at the helm of the coaching staff, quickly resolving the crisis with him remaining in his position.

According to reports, Kartal's decision to resign came in the wake of an incident during the match, after he was pelted with bottles by some fans in the stands, which led him to consider leaving his position.

Fenerbahçe drew with AS Roma 1-1, with Bryan Cristante opening the scoring for the Italian side in the 39th minute before Archie Brown equalized for the hosts in the 48th minute.
