Genoa and Sampdoria plan to rebuild Ferraris Stadium with an investment of €108 million

Genoa's municipality has approved a new step for the redevelopment of the Luighi Ferraris Stadium by granting surface rights to the stadium and its surrounding areas for up to 90 years. This is part of a massive project aimed at modernizing one of Italy's oldest stadiums and making it safer and more contemporary.

The project is led by Genoa Stadium, equally owned by Genoa and Sampdoria, which has submitted a proposal to rehabilitate and modernize the stadium, with a private investment estimated at around €108 million, and the project will be officially awarded through a public tender.

According to the plan, the right to use the Ferraris Stadium will be free for the first 50 years, after which a financial fee will be paid to the municipality starting from the 51st year until the end of the agreement. The ownership of the Ferraris Stadium will remain public and will not be transferred to the two clubs or the investing company. The agreement also guarantees the municipality free use of the stadium for no less than 20 days annually to organize events.

Genoa aims to start the project after completing the bidding process, targeting the end of March 2027 for the assignment of works, with the redevelopment process expected to be completed by March 2031. This is part of the city's ambition to prepare the stadium to host matches for the UEFA Euro 2032.
