Gökhan faces challenges at Arsenal

Victor Gyökeres is having a tough start with Arsenal in the 2026/2027 season, having missed all minutes in the Premier League so far, amid competition with Kai Havertz and questions about how well his style fits with the demands of coach Mikel Arteta.

The Swedish forward joined Arsenal in the summer of 2025 for around €70 million including bonuses, scoring 21 goals and providing 3 assists in all competitions during his first season. However, he remained far from his numbers with Sporting Lisbon, where he scored 54 goals and provided 12 assists in his final season.

Jökeres made his only appearance this season against Manchester City in the Community Shield, coming on as a substitute in the 75th minute during Arsenal's 3-0 victory, while Havertz started and scored a goal. Since then, the Swede has remained on the bench against Coventry and Aston Villa.

According to "Foot Mercato", Géocoris's situation is becoming more complicated, especially as Arteta continues to rely on Havertz, who has scored two goals in three matches, alongside Arsenal's unbeaten run so far.

The club has been looking for a new striker this summer despite signing Giakoumakis, exploring the possibility of bringing in Julián Álvarez and making inquiries about Lautaro Martínez, indicating Arteta's desire to add another attacking option.

Jökeres's style differs from some of the requirements sought by Arteta, as the Swede relies on strength and exploiting spaces, while the coach prefers a greater involvement from the striker in building play and dropping back to receive the ball.

It remains early to judge the future of Gyökeres, and the Chelsea clash presents an important opportunity for the Swedish forward to change his current situation with Arsenal.
