Ko Itakura Returns to Borussia Mönchengladbach

Ajax Amsterdam announced on Thursday that they have reached an agreement with Borussia Mönchengladbach and Japanese defender Ko Itakura regarding the player's transfer to the German club, marking his return to his former team after one season spent in Amsterdam.

Ko Itakura joined Ajax from Borussia Mönchengladbach in the summer of 2025, signing a contract that was set to run until June 30, 2029, before both parties decided to terminate the player's tenure with the Dutch club and return to Germany.

During his season with Ajax, the Japanese international defender played 26 official matches for the first team, making his debut on August 17, 2025, against Go Ahead Eagles in the Dutch league.

Itakura returns to Borussia Monchengladbach, where he played for three seasons before moving to Ajax. The Dutch club thanked the player for his commitment and contributions, wishing him success in his new venture in Germany.
