Wahab Al-Taie, a member of the Al-Shorta board, downplayed the disappointment of the draw in the first round of the Iraqi Premier League, affirming that the team is capable of bouncing back quickly and focusing on upcoming challenges.

Al-Qadisiyah opened their season with a single point after drawing 1-1 against Karbala at Al-Qafas Stadium, conceding a goal in stoppage time that denied the team a victory that was within reach.

In an interview with the Iraqi News Agency, Al-Taie said:

"The result wasn't harsh on us. Conceding a goal in the final minutes is common in football. The match remains open to all possibilities until the referee blows the final whistle."

He added: "We played the match missing seven players from the starting lineup for various reasons. Despite that, we performed well and dominated for long periods, but the lack of decisiveness cost us two important points."

A board member stressed the team's respect for all competitors and their results, noting that the coaching staff, led by Sami Al-Trabelsi, will work on correcting the mistakes that emerged, particularly in managing the dying moments of matches.

"The lesson is learned. We must close the book on this match and start thinking about the next round. The league is long, and those who want the title do not stop at a stumble at the start of the journey," he stated.

Regarding Police FC's goals this season, Al-Taie confirmed that the ambition is clear and non-negotiable.

"Our primary and sole goal is to compete for the Iraqi Premier League title and bring it back to the club's trophy cabinet."

He continued: "The players have a winning mentality and entered the season with a high competitive spirit. Last season we finished as runners-up, and this gives us even more motivation to come back stronger. The entire police system is working towards the top spot and ultimately winning the title."

The management has ensured that all requirements for success are in place for the coaching staff and players. They emphasized that the first setback will not change the team's roadmap.

With this point, Al-Shorta occupies a mid-table position after the opening round, awaiting to make up for the points dropped at home in the coming rounds.

Fans have demanded a rapid reinforcement of the squad to address injuries and absences, and to capitalize on the upcoming period to get back on the path to victories, especially since the competition this season appears to be wide open after a shaky start for the top four.
