Lecce in Talks to Sign Derek Cornelius from Marseille
Italian club Lecce has expressed interest in signing Canadian defender Derek Cornelius, currently with Olympique Marseille, during the ongoing summer transfer window, as negotiations between the two parties enter an early stage.
According to reports, communications have already begun between Lecce and the player's representatives, as well as the French club, amid the Italian team's desire to bolster their defense with an experienced international defender.
Cornelius, 28, is under contract with Marseille until June 2028, having returned to the French club following the end of his loan spell at Scottish side Rangers.
The Canadian defender has attracted interest from several clubs during the summer, including Genoa and Sassuolo, reflecting a market for the player despite the uncertainty surrounding his future with Marseille.
Talks are expected to continue in the coming days, as Lecce seeks to understand Marseille's financial terms and the possibility of reaching an agreement for Cornelius's transfer to Serie A.
