Newcastle Sets Sights on Carlos Baleba
Newcastle United has placed Cameroon midfielder Carlos Baleba, the Brighton star, on its list of targets to bolster the midfield during the current summer transfer window, as the English club seeks new options to enhance its squad.
Matthias Jaissle, Newcastle's manager, is impressed by Baleba, the 22-year-old Brighton player, whom he sees as a suitable option for the project, especially given his physical and technical abilities that allow him to perform defensive roles and build play from midfield.
However, there are no direct negotiations between Newcastle and Brighton at this time, after Baleba suffered an ankle ligament injury during pre-season preparations. He is expected to be sidelined for a period, with no indications that the injury will be long-term.
Newcastle's interest in the Cameroonian player comes as the club evaluates potential alternatives in midfield, given the uncertain futures of several key figures, including Brazilian Bruno Guimarães and Italian Sandro Tonali.
Newcastle United is expected to continue monitoring Baliba's situation in the coming period, with the club's decision to pursue a transfer depending on the player's health status and developments in the transfer market before the summer window closes.
