Barcelona Seeks FIFA Compensation for De Jong Injury
Barcelona is eagerly awaiting the final test results on Frenkie de Jong, after the Spanish newspaper "Mundo Deportivo" reported that the club will begin seeking financial compensation from FIFA starting July 28 due to the player's injury while representing the Netherlands in the 2026 World Cup.
Reports indicate that initial estimates suggest Frenkie de Jong will be sidelined for approximately four months due to a right knee injury, while the club awaits an official statement following the completion of medical examinations.
According to Mundo Deportivo, citing Marca, the Dutch midfielder played in the matches against Tunisia and Morocco while suffering from knee pain after receiving painkilling injections, before leaving the match against Morocco in the 110th minute.
FIFA will start disbursing compensation after 28 days from a player's last match with their national team, according to the Club Protection Program, where daily compensation can reach up to €20,548 until the player receives medical clearance to return.
The report indicated that the maximum compensation for each injury amounts to €7.5 million, while the total budget for the program reaches €80 million annually.
According to "Mundo Deportivo", Barcelona could receive around €1.95 million from FIFA if Frenkie de Jong is confirmed to be out for four months and returns to the pitch in mid-November.
