Barcelona Sets Price for Koundé as Chelsea and Liverpool Monitor Situation
Barcelona is actively working to restructure its finances during the summer transfer window to comply with the 1:1 salary cap rule. This has led the club to consider selling some players to fund new signings, particularly in the striker position.
According to Spanish newspaper "Sport," citing "CaughtOffside," Barcelona has set the sale price for French defender Jules Koundé at €65 million, following a reduction in the asking price, with Chelsea and Liverpool showing interest in acquiring him.
The report indicates that Koundé's transfer depends on his consent, as the player feels comfortable at Barcelona and recently renewed his contract until 2030 with an improved salary.
The newspaper added that Barcelona signed Koundé from Sevilla for €55 million, and selling him now presents an opportunity to achieve financial gains.
The report clarified that the sports management prefers to make a significant sale without affecting the core players, and with Alejandro Balde and Ronald Araújo keen to stay, Koundé's departure seems more likely compared to other defenders in the squad.
Furthermore, selling Koundé would provide Barcelona with greater financial flexibility to make new signings, whether to acquire a striker or to finalize the signing of João Cancelo, along with the possibility of strengthening the defense if the deal goes through.
