Xhaka Commits Future to Sunderland
Swiss midfielder Granit Xhaka has confirmed his future with Sunderland, opting to remain with the club despite Chelsea's interest in signing him during the current summer transfer window.
Sky Sports reported that Sunderland rejected a formal offer from Chelsea last week, valued at £8 million, for the 33-year-old captain, emphasizing that the club has not placed the player on the transfer list.
The report indicated that Xhaka was initially open to the idea of reuniting with his former Bayer Leverkusen coach, Xabi Alonso, who is now managing Chelsea. However, discussions with Sunderland's management concluded with him reaffirming his full commitment to staying with the club.
Additionally, the opportunity to lead Sunderland in the upcoming UEFA Europa League, along with the long-term sporting project the club is pursuing, played a crucial role in the player's decision to continue his journey with the team.
Xhaka is under contract with Sunderland for another two years after joining the club in the summer of 2025 for £13 million, and club officials consider him a key figure for the upcoming season.
