Switzerland Defeats Canada and Both Advance to the Round of 32 in the World Cup

The Swiss national team secured a valuable 2-1 victory over Canada in the match held on Wednesday evening at BC Place Stadium, as part of the third round of the group stage in the 2026 World Cup.

The first half of the match ended in a goalless draw, before the Swiss national team opened the scoring through Ruben Vargas in the 46th minute, giving his team the advantage at the start of the second half.

Switzerland continued their offensive dominance and managed to extend their lead in the 57th minute through Johan Manzambi. In the 76th minute, Promes David reignited hope for the Canadian team by narrowing the gap with Canada's first goal. However, the remaining minutes did not see any change in the score.

With this victory, the Swiss team increased their tally to 7 points at the top of the group, while Canada's tally remained at 4 points in second place, thus both teams advanced to the round of 32 of the tournament.
