Alphonso Davies misses Canada camp due to honeymoon

Alphonso Davies, the star of Bayern Munich and the Canadian national team, will miss Canada's squad for the upcoming friendlies after the Canadian Soccer Association announced that the player is "unavailable for selection due to his wedding celebrations and spending his honeymoon."

Canada head coach Jesse Marsch has revealed that Alphonso Davies wanted to join the camp, and the coaching staff also wished for his presence. However, the defender got married shortly after the World Cup, which was exhausting for him both physically and mentally.

Marsh said: "Alphonso wanted to be here, and we wanted him in this camp, but he got married shortly after the World Cup. The World Cup was also filled with a lot of things for him, and he was dealing with his physical condition."

He added: "We discussed the possibility of him spending half of the camp on his honeymoon and then joining us, but I felt it was important for him to finish his honeymoon and continue working on his fitness and level."

Canada's coach confirmed that Davies is performing well currently, stating that he "is playing wonderfully, looks in very good physical condition, and feels excellent," explaining that the decision for his absence aims to ensure his full readiness for upcoming challenges.

Marsh concluded: "We want to ensure that by November, when we need him in important matches, and then in March, throughout the next phase, he has prepared himself in the best possible way to be ready for full commitment to what we need from him with the national team."
