Notable details put Infantino and Trump's relationship under the microscope
The close relationship between FIFA President Gianni Infantino and US President Donald Trump is back in the spotlight following details revealed by an investigation from the French newspaper "Le Monde" regarding a contract for FIFA to rent a representative office in Trump Tower in New York City for around 4 million dollars over more than seven years.
The newspaper clarified, based on internal documents it reviewed, that the office is located on the 17th floor of the tower, covering an area of 450 square meters, while it remains empty most of the time. The contract extends for seven years and seven months, starting from June 2025, with a total value of approximately 3.57 million euros.
The contract was concluded through FIFA Americas Incorporated, a subsidiary of the FIFA World Cup registered in the state of Delaware, USA, with rents to be paid to Trump Tower Commercial, headed by Erik Trump, the son of the American president, which owns and manages the property.
Four members of the FIFA board signed the contract in May 2025, including the Secretary General of the federation, Matthias Grafström.
Le Monde discusses the relationship between Infantino and Trump, recalling a meeting at Trump Tower on July 17, two days before the FIFA World Cup final hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada. During the meeting, both parties praised the success of the tournament, with Trump describing it as "the biggest sporting event, perhaps in history."
