Real Madrid Refuses Ceballos' Free Departure

Wednesday 17-06-2026
Real Madrid insists on not allowing midfielder Dani Ceballos to leave for free during the summer transfer window, despite the player's desire to return to Real Betis and his attempt to reach an agreement that would allow him to leave the royal club without a fee.

According to 'PTV Sevilla', Ceballos, who has one year left on his contract with Real Madrid, offered the club's management to waive the remaining year of his contract in exchange for a free transfer, aiming to facilitate his move to Real Betis. However, Real Madrid's management rejected this offer.

The same source indicated that the royal club does not intend to let the player go without receiving financial compensation, as it demands at least seven to eight million euros for his sale during the summer transfer window.

On the other hand, Betis does not seem ready to pay large sums to regain the services of their former player, as they prefer to complete the deal for only a nominal fee, especially since the player could have returned to the club three years ago for free when his contract ended at that time.

Based on this difference in positions, Ceballos' return to Real Betis this summer remains primarily linked to reaching a direct agreement with Real Madrid, which still insists on its position of not allowing the player to leave without appropriate compensation.

In a related context, Ajax Amsterdam has shown interest in signing Ceballos, with reports indicating that the Dutch club is close to reaching an agreement with Real Madrid for more than six million euros. However, the player has expressed through his social media accounts that he is not interested in this destination at the current time.
