Brighton Holds onto Defender and Rejects Tottenham's Second Offer
Brighton Club has rejected a second offer from Tottenham Hotspur to sign Dutch defender Jan Paul van Hecke during the current summer transfer window, as the club's management insists on either retaining the player or receiving the financial compensation they previously set.
Sky Sports reported that Brighton still refuses to let go of van Hecke for less than £70 million, which the club's management has set as a condition for approving his departure this summer.
The British newspaper 'The Telegraph' had earlier indicated that Tottenham made an official offer to acquire the services of the Dutch international defender, but negotiations did not progress after the offer was rejected.
Van Hecke, 25 years old, has attracted interest from several Premier League clubs, including Chelsea and Liverpool, before Tottenham entered the race strongly to sign him.
The Dutchman joined Brighton in the summer of 2020 from the Dutch club Breda for about 2 million euros and has succeeded in establishing himself in the team's starting lineup.
