Saturday 06-06-2026
The difficulty level of the 2026 FIFA World Cup groups varies from one group to another, making it relatively subjective to determine the strongest and weakest. However, Opta's power rankings provide an accurate statistical assessment of each group's level.

The tournament will feature 48 teams divided into 12 groups, with 32 teams advancing to the round of 16, while 16 teams will exit the competition after the group stage.

The "Opta" ranking is based on evaluating teams from 0 to 100, where a higher number reflects the strength of the team, allowing for an objective measurement of the average strength of each group.

According to "Opta" data, the strongest group in the tournament is Group I, which includes France, Senegal, Norway, and Iraq, with an average strength of 81.8, the highest among all groups.

France ranks second globally in the power rankings with a score of "98.6," behind Spain, which leads with "100." Meanwhile, Senegal is in 21st place and Norway is in 25th place, making this the only group that includes three teams among the top 25 in the world.

The Iraq national team is ranked 62nd, noting that they performed well before the tournament with a 1-1 draw against Spain.

The eleventh group ranks second in terms of strength and includes Colombia, ranked sixth globally, and Portugal, ranked ninth, making it the only group to feature two teams within the top 10 in the world.

The fourth group also stands out as one of the strong and balanced groups, including Turkey (20), Australia (28), Paraguay (30), and the United States (36). It is the only group that does not have any team outside the top 50 globally.

On the other hand, the "Opta" network ranking indicated that Group B is considered the weakest in the tournament, with an average strength of 70.9 and an average ranking of 52.8, which is the lowest among all groups.

The group includes Canada (ranked 37th globally), Switzerland (17th), Bosnia and Herzegovina (77th), and Qatar (80th), with no team ranked among the top 16 globally.

The first group is also considered one of the weakest, as it does not include any team within the top 20 globally. It includes Mexico "24", South Korea "32", the Czech Republic "40", and South Africa "64".

Opta data also highlights significant differences in some groups, such as Group C, where the gap between Brazil "92.2" and Haiti "57.1" is about 35.1 points, while the gap in Group E reaches 40.1 points between Germany "89.6" and Curaçao "49.5".

These rankings confirm that the 2026 World Cup groups vary significantly in terms of strength, making some groups more competitive and exciting than others according to the established statistical criteria.
