Mendy Sells World Cup Trophy He Won with France

In a notable incident, Frenchman Benjamin Mendy, World Cup champion with France in 2018, has sold the miniature version of the World Cup he received after the 'Les Bleus' clinched the title for a large sum of money.

The 32-year-old defender participated in an auction organized by the American auction house Goldin, specializing in sports memorabilia, where a special version of the trophy he owns was sold for approximately $62,000, or around €54,000, according to French newspaper Le Parisien.

The buyer received a certificate confirming the authenticity of the piece, after Mendy signed it himself, which is a standard procedure in such auctions. However, it is noteworthy that the trophy was not in perfect condition, as it displayed some damage, including a crack in its lower part.

Mendy was part of the French national team that won the 2018 World Cup in Russia, having played in 10 international matches for his country. After a career with prominent clubs like Monaco and Manchester City, the French defender faced a significant crisis in 2021 when he was accused of rape and attempted rape, before being fully acquitted in July 2023.

After his acquittal, Mendy tried to revive his career with French side Lorient, then had a stint with Swiss club Zurich, before moving to Polish side Pogon Szczecin in 2025, where he participated in a limited number of matches.
