From Qatar to America.. Morocco Chases New Global Glory

Tuesday 02-06-2026
The Moroccan national team continues to solidify its position among the world's top teams, having officially secured its place in the 2026 World Cup finals. This marks a new achievement, as it qualifies for the World Cup for the third consecutive time and the seventh time in its history.

The "Atlas Lions" secured their ticket to the global event set to be held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, after topping Group E in the African qualifiers. The qualification came after a sweeping 5-0 victory over Niger in Rabat, also benefiting from Tanzania's draw against Congo (1-1), thus affirming the Moroccan team's dominance in the qualification journey.

All eyes have been on Morocco since the historic achievement it accomplished in the 2022 Qatar World Cup, when it captured attention by reaching the semifinals as the first Arab and African team to achieve this feat.

At that time, coach Walid Regragui's men managed to eliminate major teams, most notably Portugal in the quarter-finals, before finishing the tournament in fourth place globally, marking the best Arab and African participation in the history of the World Cup.

The Moroccan national team enters the 2026 edition with high spirits after an exemplary performance in the qualifiers, achieving a perfect record with consecutive victories over Tanzania (home and away with a score of 2-0), Zambia (2-1), and Congo (6-0), in addition to wins over Niger with scores of 2-1 and 5-0. Striker Ayoub El Kaabi also shone by scoring four goals, leading the team's scoring chart in the qualifiers.

Morocco's qualification for the 2026 World Cup marks its seventh participation in history, following appearances in the 1970, 1986, 1994, 1998, 2018, and 2022 editions, continuing to write new chapters in its distinguished journey on the global stage.

Morocco's participation in the World Cup has seen many notable milestones, starting with its first appearance in Mexico in 1970 as the first Arab and African team to participate in the tournament. This was followed by the achievement in the 1986 World Cup when they topped their group and advanced to the second round as the first Arab and African team to do so, culminating in the historic achievement in Qatar 2022 that placed the "Atlas Lions" among the world's top teams.
