Sofyan El Karouani Dreams of the 2026 World Cup with Morocco

The Moroccan defender Soufiane El Karouani, a player for FC Utrecht in the Netherlands, has expressed great ambition to be part of the Moroccan national team during the 2026 World Cup finals, while also acknowledging the difficulty of competing for his position within the "Atlas Lions" squad.

The 25-year-old left-back's statements came in an interview with the Dutch magazine "Voetbal International," where he emphasized that the dream of participating in the World Cup is an important milestone in his football career, despite his belief that his chances still require more work.

Al-Krawani said: "Being with the national team in the World Cup is an important goal for me this season. I trust in my abilities, but I do not expect to be a starter from the beginning with Morocco; I only hope to be among the list of 26 players who will be selected."

The player is having an impressive season in the Dutch Eredivisie, having scored 3 goals and provided 12 assists, which reflects his significant impact with his team this season. Meanwhile, he continues to strive to enhance his chances of gaining the trust of the Moroccan national team's coaching staff.

Al-Karwani confirmed that he works daily on improving his level in order to convince the technical staff of his ability to join the final squad participating in the 2026 World Cup.

The player concluded his statements: "If I am chosen, I will be very happy, and if not, I will continue to support the Moroccan national team with pride."

It is noted that Sofiane El Karouani is among a list of 28 players called up by coach Mohamed Wahbi to participate in a training camp in Morocco from May 22 to 26. The final squad for the 2026 World Cup will be announced afterward.
